lol I don't blame you, I'm more fond of female characters too,(more you can do with them, more design possibilities..) which is why almost all my human characters are girls, and all my animal characters are guys.
I do admit it does kinda hurt my feelings though. :/
Aww I'm sorry... It's not that I think there's anything wrong with Nyte's design, I actually do like him, he kinda reminds me of myself when I was younger. It's really just that I tend to like girl characters better, mainly because of the reasons you just mentioned, but also as a matter of personal preference. This is probably why I'm such a big fan of Touhou and ponies. In MLP guys tend to take the backseat, except for rare cases like Discord, and males might as well not even exist in Touhou.
Anyway, when I lament not being Nyte's creator it's not because I think you could be doing a better job with him... I tend to look at fictional characters as real people, so what I was picturing is how miserable he'd be under my care, and how happy his misery would make me. He'd be fully aware of what I did to him, and he'd spend the entirety of his existence being upset about it. I have a thing for trolling fictional characters from beyond the fourth wall, remember? [link] This is actually a recurring theme I have going with my own characters, too. Yes, I'm evil.
Anyway, don't worry, I think your character designs and artwork are marvelous. I wouldn't be a watcher otherwise.
aw, I'm glad you didn't mean anything bad by it! c:>
I agree with the mostly female characters thing.Just something about it... you can't make a guy wear a dress, flowers, or bows without it being "wrong". you can make a girl wear pants, or ties.
Girls can have bright yellows, and pinks, and purples, baby blues, and spring green, but guys are limited to colors, like black, brown, dark colors... when girls can have those as well.
Girls can act tough, fight zombies, do sports, and everything.. but if a guy is seen playing with dolls, or cheerleading, than people think he's gay.
I honestly feel really bad for guys. 8I being judged for everything it seems. then again, if I where a guy, I probably wouldn't like some of the girly things I like now.
and your veiw on the "nyte would be better off with me" is very interesting. o-o heh, though, I AM pretty mean to my characters.. ewe; I put them in all sorts of uncomfortable situations, sad backstories, and just give them a HARDD time. XD sometimes I even let them die, just to get revived again.
...do you think my characters like being pressured, and tortured like that? XD
Funny coincidence, I was discussing this with a friend of mine just the other day. Women can more or less wear whatever they want, but if a guy wears a skirt or something, it's like WHOA STOP THE PRESSES!
It's probably a by-product of a male-dominated society. Used to be that women couldn't wear men's clothes, since it was seen as encroachment. Nowadays though, men don't generally care so much since they've realized that a woman's choice in attire does not affect them. There is still a sort of stigma attached to feminine clothing though, since men are expected to live up to an idealized image of strength and power, and femininity is often viewed as being subservient to masculinity. Thus, any man who wears women's clothing is seen as inherently weak or flawed somehow.
This also extends to attitudes and expression. Have you ever noticed this? When you meet a friend, it's OK to hug her or kiss her, and it's OK to admit it if you feel scared, or need a shoulder to cry on. But for men, such emotions are weak and unacceptable. Generally, it's only OK for men to express laughter or anger. Any guy who cries or wants a hug is weak, or worse, gay (oh noes!!!) and the only times it's OK for a guy to get physical is when he's either having sex, or in a fight.
There's something I read once which makes a lot of sense. One reason guys have a tendency to be horny pricks is because they're starved for normal human contact otherwise. It's not OK for guys to express love, or sorrow, and they're not allowed to hug people, or be intimate outside of a sexual context, so this creates a void inside them. They then seek to fill that void the only way society permits them to: gettin' it on with as many women as possible.
It's a tragedy, I think. If only we lived in a society that was more open and less discriminatory, men wouldn't have to live under such stigma. But I don't think we'll be achieving a state like that any time soon, sadly... Hell, a guy can't even watch a cartoon about colorful, anime-eyed ponies without some hater pointing and laughing.
I think that's part of the reason bullying often gets to be such a problem for boys. There's this macho culture that ingrains boys into thinking that they need to stand up for themselves by fighting for what's theirs, and not seeking help since only weaklings do that. If you were really strong enough, you wouldn't need help. I remember my grade school days... Pure hell. I got bullied so much you wouldn't believe it. Whenever I got beat up I would tell my teachers, but for some reason it was always the same. They'd send us both to detention. I think the teachers didn't know who the real guilty party was (in spite of the fact that I had bruises and the other kid didn't :/ ) so they just sent us both to be sure whoever was guilty got punished. Tried telling my mother too, but she just told me to beat the other kid's ass lol. Hell, my grandmother actually told me to take a pocket knife to school. (She was a real hardass O_O ) Well, I was never the violent sort, so eventually I just sorta gave up and endured it in silence.
Looks like I'm digressing... lol sorry.
Anyway, that's not to say that girls don't suffer stigmas of their own. My niece is in high school, and she tells me that girls can often be horribly shallow and judgmental, and that they're often expected to live up to impossible standards. Have you ever had to deal with anything like that?
Oh, and for what it's worth, I'd like to think that your tastes wouldn't really be all that different if you were a guy. I don't really believe that one's sex should determine what a person's interests will be in life. Hell, I'm 100% male and I have no problem with girly pink horses. In fact, you know what I did when those MLP Happy Meal toys came out? I walked into McDonald's and I bought them, like a man. So you go ahead and do your thing, without worrying about what roles society might try to pigeonhole you into.
As for whether your characters like being tormented like that... Of course they don't! That's why it's fun! Seems like the only difference between you and me is that apparently I dislike the fourth wall lol.
Good God, this is a long reply. Took me most of the day to write it up, I've been a bit busy so I kept coming back to this and doing it off and on lol. Weird, I'm not normally the talkative sort... Anyway, tl;dr, I know. Sorry.
